M.F.M. Fahim of Moors Sports Club clinched the national snooker crown when be pulled up his socks to beat Ryan Somaratne of Galle YMBA by five frames to one in the best of seven frames final of the Championship played at the Moors SC tables yesterday.

Young Fahim returned to his best form after conceding the first frame by a big margin of 66-39 that baffled him.

From there on it was Fahim who took full control of the situation winning the next frame in a comfortable manner 61-49. The third frame became much worse for Ryan as Fahim went on to take a firm two frames to one lead.

The winner continued to dominate the following frames on a high note scoring over 60 points in the remaining four frames. The only frame Ryan fought back was in the fourth frame when he had a break of 54 but it was not sufficient for him to win the frame as Fahim came back to win the frame on 67-60.

In the fifth frame Fahim showed that he is a master at the game having a break of 54 to amass 72 points as against Ryan’s 12. This fifth frame defeat baffled Ryan and he lost his morale which saw him go down in the next frame and conceded victory and the Championship to young Fahim.
