The 53-day long strike launched by the lecturers of the Medical Faculty of the Rajarata University ended last Friday following a fruitful discussion with the Education and Higher Education Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe, Media Spokesman of the Parents Union of the State Medical Students, Wasantha Alwis said.

Addressing the media in Colombo, he said that he wish to thank Megapolis and Western Province Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena for coordinating the discussion under the direction of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

According to Alwis, the lecturers agreed to hold the final examination tomorrow and carry out duties as usual. They launched the strike after resigning from their posts when the previous Government headed by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella stopped the allowance paid to them by the Government.

“The Chairman of the University Grants Commission exploited the name of Minister Rajapakshe and did his best to tarnish the image of the present Government by complicating the issue. He tried all tactics to prevent the Government from solving the problem of the Rajarata Medical Faculty. His behaviour was unbecoming for a public servant,” he said.
