The United National Party (UNP) has accepted that Mahinda Rajapaksa is the current Prime Minister, the President of the National Alliance for Lawyers Associations and the Former Director of the National Livestock Development Board and the Industrial Technology Institute R.Manoj Gamage said.
Addressing the media in Colombo recently he said the UNP General Secretary Kabir Hashim had sent an official letter with his signature to the TNA Leader R. Sampanthan stating that MP Ranil Wickremesinghe (not PM Ranil Wickremesinghe) will be nominated as the candidate for premiership from the United National Front (UNF). He had clearly mentioned the designation of the UNP Leader as a member of Parliament (MP).
According to Gamage, the letter is being circulating in the country through the Internet. But still the UNP Leader is staying that he is the Prime Minister while his own political party’s General Secretary says he is only a Member of Parliament. This reveals the truth to the country.
He said that the entire conflict between the Executive President and the Parliament was created by the Speaker using this single tactic of not recognising the Prime Minister. Now the UNP itself told the country that Mahinda Rajapaksa is the Prime Minister and not Ranil Wickremesinghe. From the beginning, the Speaker and the UNF used this tactic to mislead the public and they are still using it, he added.
