UPFA likely to seek Opposition Leader’s post

16 December, 2018

The UPFA is likely to seek the Opposition Leader’s post when Parliament reconvenes on December 18.

SLFP MP and former Labour Minister John Seneviratne said the coalition was contemplating this at present. However, UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera denied that they had made any request to the Speaker so far, contradicting media reports in the past few days that former PM Mahinda Rajapaksa will be made the Opposition Leader and Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Leader of the House.
