UPFA to sit in the Opposition

16 December, 2018

The UPFA Parliamentary Group will inform the Speaker today (December 16) about their decision to sit in the Opposition when the Parliament meets on Tuesday (December 18).

The UPFA parliamentary group has unanimously decided to attend Tuesday’s parliamentary sittings, UPFA Ratnapura District MP Ranjith de Zoysa told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

He said at present the UPFA commands 101 MPs including a few UNP MPs and one TNA MP who recently crossed over to the UPFA.

MP Zoysa said it all depends on the majority in Parliament. “We maintain the view that the posts of Opposition Leader, Chief Opposition Whip and Deputy Chief Government Whip should be given to the UPFA as it commands the highest number of MPs in the Opposition. We hope to take necessary steps in this regard when the UPFA Parliamentary group meets on Tuesday.”
