Police SC dished out a robust and bruising brand of rugby like in the good old days to defeat another resurgent Army SC team by 41 points to 19 in their Dialog League rugby encounter played at Police Park yesterday.

Police scored as many as six tries of which four were converted and a penalty as against three tries and two conversions by Army.

Police scored as much as 27 points to nil in the first half that gave them the clear advantage to finish winners in the end. Army just could not offer any resistance to the marauding Police team that piled on the points with their piercing runs.

It was an unbelievable and pathetic looking Army side yesterday contrary to what they did to beat a more fancied CH and FC team in a previous match.

Army could not tackle effectively and lost possession in the loose and set pieces.

Police scored first in the fourth minute when they were offered a penalty and Sachith Silva had an easy conversion.

Army failed to equalize when Gayan Salinda failed to put over a penalty.

Thereafter it was all Police who crossed the Army line at regular intervals. The first by Nisal Samadhi who had the ball in hand for a push-over try. The conversion was missed by Sachith Silva.

This was followed by another push-over try by hooker Rasith Silva. Then Sachith Silva made a good break and having gone through a gap scored under the posts for Yohan Pieris to make the conversion.

Their fifth try was scored by Kodithuwakku who received a pass from Sachith Silva to score mid right. Pieris made the conversion and Police led 27-nil at half time.

Police scored after the turn-around when their skipper Udara Suriyapperuma when over off a move by the forwards.

Janith Chandimal put over the conversion and Police led 34-nil.

Army played much better in the second half like they did against CH. They rattled the Police team a little bit with their fierce moves and tackles that saw quite a few players injured and bleeding.

Army got their first points when Aravinda Karunaratne scored a try off a forwards move. Gayan Salinda converted to give them full points.

Another move by Army saw them go over the line but referee Priya Suranga disallowed the try.

But soon after they scored when scrum half Mohamed Rizvie dummied off a 20 metres maul. Salinda added the extra points.

Police scored again when a kick-ahead saw an Army player fumble with the ball in the goal area and Mohan Wimalaratne fell on the ball. Janith Chandimal added the extra points to give them the 41 points.

Army scored the final try when off a second phase move Nalan Premaratne went over.
