Dedication, key to success of Colombo Port - Minister Sagala

Ports, Shipping and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka said dedication was a key to the success of the Colombo Port, referring to its achievement of seven million TEUs in container operations by the end of 2018.

Participating in religious observances to commence Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) operations for the New Year at the Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi premises of the SLPA on January 1, the Minister said the Colombo Port has reached a victorious juncture in its operations.

He said the dedicated contribution, honesty and efficient work procedures of all employees of SLPA elevated the status of the port. Ministry Secretary Dr.Parakrama Dissanayake attributed the achievement of the handling of seven million TEUs to the team effort of the workers.

He said it is a collaboration of the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT), South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) and the Colombo International Container Terminals(CICT). According to the Alphaliner index, the Colombo Port has upped from 22 to 23. According to global maritime rankings, the Port has become the world’s number one port of growth among container operating ports. SLPA Managing Director Captain Athula Hewavitharana, Additional Managing Director Upali de Zoysa, Directors, Heads of divisions, staff members and trade union representatives were present.
