Hemas Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Limited in collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka recently launched a Pharmacists Skills Development Program.
The program targets Pharmacy staff to equip them with a credible qualification that will help them pursue further accreditation to enhance their careers. The initiative by Hemas Pharmaceuticals will also promote patient safety.
The program will be conducted at no cost to students who will be trained on standard pharmacy practices and provided with knowledge to sit for the Sri Lanka Medical College pharmacy registration exam. The Pharmaceutical Society of Sri Lanka will work with Hemas Pharmaceuticals to conduct lectures and provide technical support for the program.
Hemas Pharmaceuticals Head of Medical Training and Compliance, Dr. Krishantha Wirasinghe said, “There are over 3,700 pharmacists in the country. Our intention is to upgrade their skills and knowledge of medicines and patient safety to ensure that there are capable professionals behind pharmacy counters.”
He said improving knowledge and skills of practising pharmacists will increase efficiency, minimise errors in storing and dispensing medicine and improve patient counselling on drugs.

Pharmaceutical Society President Shalutha Athauda said, “There is a need to enhance the skills and knowledge of the staff of pharmacies. As a professional body, we applaud the efforts by Hemas Pharmaceuticals as the program will play a vital role in uplifting and strengthening the pharmaceutical sector.”
