Sri Lanka drops further in ODI rankings

13 January, 2019

Sri Lanka has diminished in its ODI rankings following a 3-0 drubbing at the hands New Zealand this week.

The defeats push Sri Lanka to the eighth position, the worst ranking in recent years, while New Zealand has secured the third slot behind India and England who occupy the first and second slots in the table.

Sri Lanka also for the first time does not have a single player in the top twenty currently performing in bowling and batting in the ODI rankings.

India’s Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and New Zealand’s Ross Taylor are the top three ODI batsmen while Jasprit Bumrah (India), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) and Kuldeep Yadav (India) are the top three ranked bowlers.

Interestingly both England and India are touted as possible finalists at the 2019 World Cup scheduled to take place in England in June.

England has 126 points while India are behind by just five points.

Australia has also fallen in the ranks as they occupy the sixth position below South Africa and Pakistan.
