Thomians, Gateway play for trophy to honour educationists

S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia and Gateway International School will inaugurate a football encounter for the Neville de Alwis-Ralph Alles Trophy on January 26 at Ratmalana.

The match will be an under-20 affair as well as an under-14 match to be followed by a girls under 20 match between Gateway and Visakha Vidyalaya.

Shevon Ebenezer will lead S. Thomas’ while Ashane Wijewardena will lead Gateway and the game will be played under lights scheduled to commence at 6 p.m.

Special awards will be presented to the best goal keeper, best player and the most valuable player in the main game.

The victorious teams too will be presented with Trophies and certificates at the awards ceremony.

“Football is a game respected by all sports fans in the world. Education alone will not help children to serve the society.

“They need to learn how to take victory and defeat in a sporting manner which will be of great help for in every aspect,” said Rev Marc Billimoria the Warden of S. Thomas’ College.

Dr. Harsha Alles, Chairman of Gateway International said the match will honour what he called “two great educationists”.
