People’s Bank marks Independence Day

The People’s Bank head office and branches organised celebrations islandwide to mark the 71th Independence Day.

The celebration at the head office was held under the patronage of the Bank’s Chief Executive Officer and General Manager N. Vasantha Kumar.

Steps have been taken to award an Isuru Udana gift certificate worth Rs. 1,000 to every baby born in the country between February 1-7 under Nidahase Upatha, a program held by the Bank every year on Independence Day. The staff of the Bank visits hospitals and presents the certificates to the newborns.

The program was launched in 2006 to instil pride and honour towards the motherland and encourage parents to plan the future with a strong financial foundation of their children. With the gift certificate, parents can open an Isuru Udana Children’s Savings Account for the child at the nearest People’s Bank branch.

The main events of the program were held on February 4 at the Castle Street Maternity Hospital in Borella, under the patronage of Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Kumar and De Soysa Hospital for Women in Borella under the patronage of Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Designate, Rasitha Gunawardena.

Castle Street Maternity Hospital Director Dr. Pradeep Wijesinghe, Deputy Director Dr. Nalin Premadasa, Deputy Director, De Soysa Hospital for Women, Dr. Kaushalya Kumari Malawage and Chief Nursing Officer R.K.D Rathnayake also participated.
