Sri Lankan boxing coaches upgrded

10 February, 2019

Three Sri Lankan boxing coaches Lal Amunugama, Upali Bandara and Chamara Marasinghe have been awarded the International Star Level Two title by the International Boxing Association.

The trio were awarded the titles after they attended the international Two Star Coaching Course and examination in October last year in India.

The coaches’ upgrading was initiated by Dian Gomes, after he became the president of the Sri Lankan Boxing Association in 2017.

It is a noteworthy fact that all current Level Two coaches have been upgraded from their previous Level One within the year 2018.

This is a significant step up for Sri Lankan boxing and Gomes has already set some ambitious plans in motion for 2019.

He has committed to support 76 Level One qualified local coaches to reach a new level.

An international Level Two-Star course and examination is scheduled to be held in Colombo from June 4 to 7 this year and as many as 50 coaches are expected to qualify.
