St. Aloysius and Vidyaloka gear up for Galle show

St Aloysius’ College Galle will meet Vidyaloka Vidyalaya in their inaugural one-day cricket encounter which is scheduled to be played on March 9 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. This annual encounter is named ‘Glory of Galle’ and is sponsored by D. Samson & Sons Industries (DSI).

St Aloysius’ have a well balanced side led by Gimhana Ashirwada while Vidyaloka is led by Sanju Lakshan. Leg spinner Nadeera Ishan has already passed the 100 wicket mark this season and is the main strike bowler for Vidyaloka while St Aloysius’ is packed with more all rounders and have a better advantage going into the match.

St Aloysius’ skipper Ashirwada, deputy skipper Chatura Prabath and Sandeepa Samood are the most experienced players of the side. They also have some youngsters and their coach former skipper Malaka de Silva has made an all-out effort to groom a well-balanced side.

They recorded two outright victories this season while most of the matches ended in first innings wins.

Vaidyaloka started their cricket from 1997 but they have proved themselves from the junior level. This season the Vidyaloka under-13 team emerged Division Two champions that brought some pride to the school.

Thusitha Kariyawasam who captained Vidyaloka in 1998 has done a good job in preparing the players for the encounter as the head coach.
