EDB participates in organic products trade fair

The Export Development Board (EDB) has identified BioFach as one of the best places to promote Sri Lankan organic products to the EU region and other countries. The EDB in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Consulate in Frankfurt, Germany organised a national pavilion for international buyers and most EU buyers, visited this stall.

The BioFach trade fair is the world’s largest organic trade show. It offers an extensive range of organic agricultural products such as tea, raw and processed fruit and vegetables, dairy and dairy products, frozen food, processed food, coconut based products, beverages, medicinal products and extracts.

The 30th edition of BioFach was held in Nuremberg, Germany recently. Exhibitors from 95 countries participated and more than 50,000 trade visitors attended.

The BioFach Congress held parallel to the exhibition has created a platform for 8,000 participants to improve and share the knowledge of biodiversity, soil fertility, clean water, strong plants, animal welfare, agriculture, processing, nutrition and health by conducting about 150 presentations.

The BioFach Novelty Stand, featured Vacuum dehydrated jack fruits, Low sugar energy bars using cereals and ‘mixed dried fruits bars’ which were the most popular items among the visitors.

The Sri Lankan pavilion comprised ten Sri Lankan organic food and beverage export companies - Silvermill Natural Beverages (Pvt) Ltd,Virgin Oil International (Pvt) Ltd,RMP Coconut Products (Pvt) Ltd, Stassen Exports (Pvt) Ltd.,Orient Trading Company (Pvt) Ltd, Rathna Producers Cinnamon Exports (Pvt) Ltd., HJS Condiments Limited, SRS Fruit & Spices (Pvt) Ltd., Colombo Export & Import Agencies (Pvt) Ltd., D P Global Ventures (Pvt) Ltd.

They displayed Sri Lankan organic products such as - cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves, mace, ginger, turmeric, cashew, moringa, black tea, green tea, , virgin coconut oil, coconut floor, coconut milk/cream, coconut water, coconut chips, desiccated coconut, cinnamon leaf oil, cinnamon bark oil, dried fruits, fruit drinks/juice, chunks, vegetable in brine, dehydrated fruits, vegetable and fruit rolls/tapes.

Director, Silvermill Natural Beverages (Pvt) Ltd., Nanda Kohona said, “Participation at Biofach is a must for all exporters of all Organic produce as this opens opportunities to meet buyers in the organic trade”.

Director, Virgin Oil International (Pvt) Ltd., Mervin Gonavala said, “As processors and exporters of quality organic virgin coconut oil and coconut flour, it was a great opportunity for us”.

Parallel to this program, the EDB in collaboration with the GIZ (Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit) in Sri Lanka organised a capacity building and market exposure program.
