Sri Lanka wins silver at Asian youth meet

Sri Lanka won a silver medal when Navishka Sandeesh from St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa came second in the boys 400m at the Asian Youth Championship worked off in Hong Kong yesterday.

Sandeesh missed the gold medal narrowly by clocking 48.21sec while Indian Abdul Razak was placed first clocking 48.17 secs and Yefim Tarassov from Kazakhstan came third in 48.59 seconds.

In the 800M girls heat Shanika Lakshani finished third and advanced to the final clocking 2:17.05. The final will be held today.

Sadeepa Henderson finished third in 25.42 seconds in the 200m heats and she will be in today’s final.

Shemal Milinda Perera won the 200m heats clocking 22.19 seconds while Amesha Hettiarachchi finished second in a time of 1:04.60 in the 400 meters hurdles to advance to the final. (KR)
