Chris Prattis is engaged to be married to Katherine Schwarzenegger, and has recently opened up about the moment he asked Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger for his daughter’s hand in marriage. The LEGO Movieactor admitted he was nervous before the conversation: “I think for any person, who appreciates the tradition and asks a father for his daughter’s hand in marriage, it’s inevitable, something that’s going to make you a little nervous. But that’s the beauty of it.”
They may have kept their dating life out of the public eye, but now that actor Chris Pratt and his fiancée, author (and great-niece to JFK) Katherine Schwarzenegger are officially engaged, it seems they have finished holding back. After a January full of milestones—an engagement announcement, news of their cohabitation, and Pratt’s plans to have “lots of kids”—the actor has given the first hints about what may be in store for the Pratt/Schwarzenegger nuptials.
At the premiere for The Lego Movie 2: the Second Part Pratt said that though they haven’t started wedding planning yet, a cool-weather ceremony looks likely. “A little, you know, maybe fall, winter kind of thing and you know, we’ve got a lot to get done,” he said. Considering how quickly the couple’s relationship has moved thus far, that probably places the wedding date somewhere in the latter half of 2019 or early 2020.
This isn’t the first time Pratt’s spoken out about his upcoming marriage in recent weeks. In his first interview since the couple went public with their engagement in early January, Pratt talked about his hopes for the future with Schwarzenegger, especially when it comes to family.
“Maybe less time spent working, more time spent enjoying life,” Pratt added. “I always want to be that guy who works to live, not lives to work. I think I want to spend just a lot of time at the farm and a lot of time catching a lot of fish and seeing lots of sunsets.”
Though the couple only started dating in the spring of 2018, they’re obviously taking their future together seriously. In the same week they announced their engagement, the couple also reportedly moved in together in a house in west Los Angeles, close to where Pratt’s ex-wife Anna Faris lives with their 6-year-old son, Jack. Though it’s not clear exactly when the move took place, Pratt shared a sponsored post on his Instagram on January 11 including the caption, “I love moving!!” leading to speculation that the couple may have moved in together on that day. If that is the case, then Pratt’s Instagram enjoyed an eventful few days of breaking news—the very next post was the announcement of his engagement to Schwarzenegger.
The Engagement
“Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go! He wrote, on a post of them together on January 14, which showed off her new engagement ring.
Schwarzenegger later shared the photo on her Instagram, writing “My sweet love. Wouldn’t want to live this life with anyone but you.”While their relationship has been far from secret in recent months, neither of the celebrities had made public statements about their romance until December 13, when Pratt sent out a sweet birthday message for Schwarzenegger on his Instagram.
Happy Birthday Chief! Your smile lights up the room. I’ve cherished our time together. Thrilled God put you in my life. Thankful for the laughs, kisses, talks, hikes, love and care,” he wrote in the caption to a photo collage of Schwarzenegger smiling and laughing as well as two photos of the couple together—one in sheet masks printed with animal faces, and one of Pratt kissing a grinning Schwarzenegger on the cheek.
The couple were later spotted lounging by a pool together on vacation in Cabo San Lucas on New Year’s Eve.
How they met
Turns out, that the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom star owes his first meet-up with the daughter of actor/politician Arnold Schwarzenegger and journalist/philanthropist Maria Shriver to shiver herself, who reportedly played matchmaker for the couple. “Maria helped set them up,”.Maria and Chris evidently knew one another through mutual friends, which inspired her to put him in touch with Katherine. Though they were initially spotted together in public on Father’s Day, it apparently wasn’t their first date. The 39-year-old Chris and 29-year-old Katherine had gone out multiple times prior to their June 17 date, and had been “talking consistently” for about “two months or so.”
Summer love
The relationship may be fresh, but the two have been spending plenty of time together since the start.Both are spiritually-minded (Katherine was raised Catholic while Pratt is a vocal Christian and regularly attends the Zoe Church in Los Angeles) and have been spotted several times after attending services together. On one such occasion in July, they brought along Jack, Chris’s five –year- old son with ex-wife, actress Anna Faris, buying him ice cream and sharing a sweet public kiss. “They are spending every day together and Katherine has met Jack several times,” a source said.
Meeting the family
Another sign of how seriously the couple are taking their relationship is the fact that they started getting close with one another’s family within months of their first date. Already a friend of Maria’s, Chris got to meet some more of Katherine’s family on August 5 when the couple had dinner at Maria’s home with Katherine’s brother, Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Just a few weeks later, at the beginning of September, the duo visited Round Pond Estate winery in Napa with Chris’s brother Cully and some friends before attending a gala benefiting the christian children’s charity, the Leaven.

Fall romance
The family feelings continued into the fall when the couple was spotted trick-or-treating with Chris’s son, Jack, his ex-wife, Anna, and her boyfriend, Michael Barrett.In mid-November they also grabbed a bite at FIG restaurant in Santa Monica with Katherine’s father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and his girlfriend, Heather Milligan. For Thanksgiving 2018, the duo spent their first holiday together, hanging out with Katherine’s mother and brothers on Thanksgiving morning and watching her brothers play football. “You can tell Chris knows Katherine’s family really well,” the insider told the publication. “Chris always seems very comfortable around her family. It’s like he is part of the family.”
