The 13th edition of the Oxford President’s Cup Schools Invitation Football Championship got underway last week at the Sugathadasa stadium and has reached the semi-final stage.
The Championship is organized by the 80 Group of Hameed Al Hussienie College, Colombo.
Hameed Al Husseinie College the hosts have already made their way to the semi final along with Al Hazar Central College and Muslim Central College while the final quarter-final is yet to be played. During the preliminary stage Wesley College received a walk-over from Lumbini Vidyalaya, while Muslim Central College too got a walk-over from St. Peter’s College.
These walk-overs helped Muslim CC and Wesley to enter round two.
Hameed Al Husseimnie College recorded the highest goal aggregate when they trounced Hindu College by nine goals to nil in a round game.
MMM Imran of Al Hazar Central College netted in four goals in their first game against Dharmadutha College and later came up with another good performance to score five goals in the quarter-final game against Holy Cross College Kalutara to be the top goal scorer up to quarter final level.
The semi finals are scheduled to be played on March 30 and the play-off and the final will be played on April 7 commencing at 2 pm on both days.
