First Easter - Musings of Mary Magdalene

21 April, 2019

Darkness reigned supreme, so it seemed
Prince of Peace fallen – we unredeemed
Hope is deferred – Can evil trump justice?
Can heaven agree to this unjust armistice?
Mary of Magdala, is hoping against hope
Three loyal women have fears to cope

Step by step she leads two more Mary’s
Stone to roll, Roman guards to appease
Earth had quaked, hell had the tremors
Mission impossible done – Victor arose
Tomb is empty, guards flee their charge
Out of ashes beauty arises, hope enlarges

Magna Carta scripted by the Lamb risen
Poor hear the Gospel no more trodden
Slaves are free, emancipation resounds
Blind now see, amazing grace renowned
Nations learn, war no more – cry liberty
Swords turn to ploughshares, in victory

Brotherhood by God’s birth, One family
Jesus the Good Shepherd – basis of homily
Crown of thorns turns to victor’s crown
Desire of all nations –over waves sound
Meekness, majesty, hail Lord and Master
“Come to me” – Rest won’t falter
