Malinga most hammered IPL bowler

Lasith Malinga finished the 2019 IPL by conceding a whopping 438 runs from 12 matches while taking 16 wickets and conceding an economy rate of 9.76 runs per over in the tournament which is the highest conceded by any bowler in the top 25 rankings at the end of the League.

Playing for the Mumbai Indians Malinga conceded 20 runs in his third over or 16th over of the innings in the final against Chennai Super Kings that Jasprit Bumrah had to overcome in the following 17th over by conceding just three runs.

In the 19th over Bumrah conceded just five runs off the bat and had an economy rate of just 6.63 in the tournament while the highest wicket taker in the season Imran Thahir finished with an economy rate of 6.69 runs per over. Thahir had 26 wickets.

The leading wicket taker among the fast bowlers was South African Kigaso Rabada with 25 wickets from just 12 games and an economy rate of 7.82.

Malinga’s only consolation was taking the wicket of tail-end batsman SN Thakur who had faced only two balls as Mumbai Indians won by one run in the last ball.
