Tamil National Alliance (TNA) which extended their support to the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena in 2015 Presidential election is yet to decide upon the newly introduced candidate of the coalition, Minister Sajith Premadasa.
Speaking to the Sunday Observer, TNA spokesperson M.A. Sumanthiran said that they will discuss with all candidates and then decide whom to support at the upcoming presidential elections.
Leader of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian, Mavai Senathirajah told the Sunday Observer yesterday (28) that they are waiting till the last moment to decide after considering the manifestos of candidates.
“We have not yet taken any decision on this matter. We have to discuss with concerned political parties regarding our political solution and day-to-day issues. We have another week to make a decision. We will not decide such things hurriedly,” Senathirajah said.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister of Northern Province C.V. Wigneswaran debunked media reports which stated that he is getting ready to contest at upcoming Presidential polls.
“This time there will be no question about the person who is contesting. Anyone who accepts our political solution will receive our support,” the Supreme Court judge turned politician said.
The former chief of the Northern Province formed an alternative political force in the North a few months ago, named Tamil Makkal Koottani (Tamil People’s Front – TMK), and began working together with Suresh Premachandran of Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) and Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam of All Ceylon Tamil Congress, abandoning his former political allegiance with the TNA.
He added, “Boycotting the election is useless. Because one person will get a better chance if it is boycotted. We may think of other ways of forcing them to come to a decision as to what they should do with regard to us. Because, in any case, whoever who comes to power is going to be anti-Tamil”.
