ECO2 FUME, a fast acting, environmentally friendly cylindarised Phosphine fumigant manufactured in Canada by Cytec-Solvay Group for food applications such as raw agricultural commodities, animal feed, feed ingredients, fruits, vegetables, flowers, herbal tea, processed food and non food commodities was launched by Suren Cooke Agencies last week.
Sales Manager, APAC fumigation of the Cytec-Solvay Group, Mathew Murphy said that ECO2 FUME had received full regulatory approval from the Registrar of Pesticides and National Plant Quarantine Services in Sri Sri Lanka.
He added that Sri Lanka was the eighth country in the region to choose Phosphine as a replacement for Methyl Bromide which has been identified as a ozone depleting substance.
He said that ECO2 FUME was a readymix ready to use product which had an added advantage that fumigation can be achieved in a mere 24 hours.
Director of Suren Cooke Agencies (Pvt) Limited., Rajitha Cooke said that in Sri Lanka, fumigation was required for the control of stored product pests, fruit and melon flies. He added that with the restriction on the use of Methyl Bromide and limitations placed on the use of Aluminium Phosphide and Magnesium Phosphide which were the three approved fumigants had caused a setback in the export and domestic fumigation industry.
