Fair demand for 600,000 kgs

Fair demand prevailed at this week’s tea auction for the 600,000 kgs on offer. Best and below best Western BOPs were about firm, whilst bottom was firm to Rs. 20 dearer, Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC Senior Vice President Sohan Samaranayake told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

“Low Growns had less demand. Select best BOP1 / OP1s substantially lower; others sold at lower rates. Well-made stylish OP / OPAs discounted sharply with poorer varieties held firm. Pekoe / Pekoe1’s sold at lower rates. In the Tippy Small leaf catalogues, select best FBOP1s held firm, while poorer varieties gained in value,” he said.

Liquoring BOPs sold at lower rates; others were firm on last. Select best BOPFs held firm. In the Premium Flowery catalogues, long leaf and small leaf tippy teas had fair demand,” he said.

“Better Western BOPFs were about firm, but the below best lost Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 with the bottom irregularly lower. Nuwara Eliya BOPs gained upto Rs. 30, while BOPFs were firm. Udapussellawa BOPs were about Rs. 20 to Rs. 30 dearer, their Coloury BOPFs were firm, but bottom lost Rs. 10 to Rs. 20. Uva BOP and Clean BOPFs gained up to Rs. 20, while poorer Uva BOPFs were about firm. Medium BOP / BOPFs were about Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 dearer. High Grown CTC PF1s gained Rs. 10 with others irregular and tending lower. High and Medium CTC PF1s maintained last week’s demand, while others were lower up to Rs. 30,” he said .
