Sri Lanka is a country with a proud heritage of more than 2500 years whose image on the world map was enhanced by a World Cup winning cricket team in 1996 and now comes the news that the Pearl of the Indian ocean is in the process of showcasing what might be the world's first twins cricket squad.

Focused on the concept, an entity called the Srilanka Twins Organization said they are proud to showcase the rarity by forming the first ever Twins Cricket Squad which they hope will revolutionize the spirit of cricket not only in Sri Lanka but across the world.

With the vision and the guidance of the co-founders of Srilanka Twins Organization, Upuli Gamage and Chamli Gamage together with the immense support of Mahinda Hettiarachchi, the concept of twins cricket was initiated with a group of talented twin cricketers who have showcased their talents at school level, university level as well as at club level.

The sole intention of the co-founders is to pave the path for twin cricketers to be a part of the national cricket squad and reach out to the global arena of cricket. At present they are able to showcase a Junior as well as a Senior squad for the twin cricketers.

The talented twin cricketers were discovered from different areas in Sri Lanka and with utmost difficulties and hardships they arrived at the heart of Colombo to render their fullest support in this venture with the sole intention of taking the name of Sri Lanka to a bigger audience.

The driving force behind this unique initiative is the head coach of the Srilanka Twins Cricket squad Supun Kumarapperuma who is a past pupil of Ananda Shasthralaya in Kotte and has been playing cricket since his childhood.

He was one of the Premier level cricketers who have been playing for Bloomfield Cricket Club and Saracens Cricket Club and is a qualified cricket coach with International Cricket Council certification.

Kumarapperuma has been working as a coach under the guidance of former First Class cricketer Hemantha Devapriya at the Devas Cricket Academy for nearly 10 years and is currently running an academy for over 50 budding players.

The official launch of the Srilanka Twins Cricket Squad will take place today (February 21) at the Wadduwa Fisherman Villa Hotel at 6 pm and together with it there will be an attempt for a new Guinness World Record for the world’s first ever twins cricket team.

The promoters also welcome sponsors for the Srilanka Twins Cricket Squad who will have the privilege of displaying their logo during matches and have requested interested parties to call 0704644640 (Mahinda Hettiarachchi) for more details.
