Around 223 persons out of 493 who died from Covid-19 in the country were above 70 and around 265 of them were from the Colombo district, official statistics revealed yesterday.
According to the statistics released by the Government Information Department, 120 persons between 61 and 70 died from the Covid-19 virus during the past several months. The second highest number of Covid-19 related deaths was recorded in the Kalutara district which was around 52 followed by the Gampaha district with 44 deaths, statistics revealed.
One-hundred-and-thirty-four persons died at home prior to hospitalisation. Male patients made up the bulk of the number with 308 deaths and females 185.
