Chloe x Halle drop Ungodly Hour music video

7 March, 2021

Who is doing it like them??

It looks like Chloe x Halle have concluded that we like ourselves enough to be worthy of an Ungodly Hour music video.

The sister duo made a surprise announcement on February 22 that the namesake of their sophomore album was finally going to get a music video. The visual premiered on February 24 on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, and as always, the sisters served some incredible, sensual choreography, intricate loc styles and flawless visuals.

The Alfred Marroquín-directed video confirmed what some of us have been thinking, which is that Chloe and Halle Bailey’s artistry is not of this realm and they live in the year 3000. In the video, the ladies frolic in water and are seen dressed as stylish robots in latex with metallic headpieces — so it turns out their outfits for the VMAs performance of Ungodly Hour were actually clues to the concept of the music video. (These two probably live in the same universe as Janelle Monae’s ArchAndroid.)

Written by Chloe, Halle, Nija Charles, and Mark Spears and produced by Chloe herself, the lyrics talk about loving someone when all their flaws are laid out on the table — but a potential lover needs some self-esteem before they can call on them. “When you decide you like yourself (holler at me)\when you decide you need someone (call upon me)\when you don’t have to think about it\love me at the ungodly hour.”

Fans

After seeing the official video, fans took to the internet to share their excitement. “CHLOE X HALLE ARE THE FUTURE, THEY ARE THE FUTURE OF MUSIC DO YOU HEAR ME, THEY ARE SUCCESSORS, THE VISIONARIES! THE FOWARD THINKERS!!” one fan exclaimed.

Ungodly Hour was one of the defining albums of 2020. It earned the sister duo three Grammy nominations, and they promoted it with several impressive televised performances during the pandemic, including NPR’s Tiny Desk, a U.S. Open performance from their tennis court, a Spice Girl-themed version of Do It at the GLAAD Awards, and their Dear Class of 2020 showing. It was also announced on The Tonight Show that the Chrome Edition of the Ungodly Hour will be out this Friday along with a vinyl — we cannot wait.
