Bangladesh batsmen struck early form in their preparations for the Test series against Sri Lanka with solid performances on the opening day of their Intra-Squad match, which began at the Chilaw Marians ground in Katunayake yesterday.

After completing their quarantine period in Negombo, the Bangladesh team came out for the first time with a home-and-home game, which will be their only warm-up ahead of the two-Test Test series.

The openers Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain found the conditions ideal for batting as they figured in a century opening stand with both batsmen completing half-centuries.

In fact, left-hander Tamim is a vital cog in the Bangladesh batting line-up as he looks to regain his form following a poor run during the home Test series against the West Indies.

Najmul Hossain (53), Saif Hassan (52) and Mushfiqur Rahim (66) also struck half-centuries as Bangladesh Red ended the day at 314 for six.

The first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka begins on April 21 at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy.

Chief scores:

Bangladesh Red: 314/6  Tamim Iqbal 63, Najmul Hossain 53, Saif Hassan 52, Mushfiqur Rahim 66, Nurul Hasan 48) vs Bangladesh Green
