Ninety-six Covid-19 deaths of those between 20-30

3 October, 2021

One hundred and fifty Covid-19 deaths have been reported so far from those below the age of 30 and of this number, 96 of them are between 20 and 30. A person should live to go abroad or do anything else.

Therefore, all those between 20 and 30 should obtain the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as possible, the Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Samitha Ginige said.

He told a press briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau (HPB) in Colombo on Thursday that no matter whether the aged parents at home received both doses of Covid-19 vaccine, they can get infected and die if there is no satisfactory level of antibodies developed in them.

Therefore, it is essential for all youth to obtain the vaccine against Covid-19 to protect themselves and their aged parents and other family members over the age of 60.

Dr. Ginige said that all previous Covid-19 clusters in Sri Lanka were initiated by selfish and irresponsible people who knew that they are not well but moved in the open society, especially at their workplaces freely. If one non vaccinated employee gets infected with Covid-19, all the others in his/her staff need to be quarantined for 14 days, no matter whether they are fully vaccinated or not. When this happens, the entire department or the institution gets paralysed. It affects the productions and services delivered to the people by that specific institution. Therefore, all those between 20 and 30 should get the vaccine against Covid-19 as soon as they get the opportunity to do so.

There is a huge campaign against all types of vaccinations in the world including Covid-19. This campaign is based on various mythical beliefs such as various religious and cultural beliefs. All Covid-19 vaccines are safe and approved by the WHO and Sri Lanka’s health experts’ committees. Since December 2020, no one has become infertile or sub fertile due to the vaccines. Therefore, all persons between 20 and 30 should get the vaccine against Covid-19 and protect themselves as soon as possible, he said.
