Rugby legend Marija to open high-performance academy in Kandy

Former Sri Lanka rugby star Fazil Marija is planning to come up with a high-performance rugby academy in Kandy to benefit aspiring players.

The former Kandy SC and Sri Lanka captain is presently coach of his club and wants to imbibe his experience to develop youngsters.

One of the best fly half’s Sri Lanka produced and Asia rugby has seen, Marija retired from the game in 2018 and was appointed as the head coach of Kandy SC the following year.

Marija honed his rugby skills at Kingswood College, leading them to a unbeaten triple crown in 2004 and was adjudged the best schoolboy player in the Singer International Sevens Tournament and also the Golden Key Schools Sevens tournament.

He has won numerous national rugby awards, leading Sri Lanka to victory in the Asian Rugby Championship in the Philippines in 2015.
