The drought of the jungle

25 June, 2023

At the far end of the busy streets

Lay a sea so lush and green

A forest of beauty at its peak

Yet, it only lasts but a little while

Then the rainy season shall take its leave

Along with its glory

Next comes

the reign of misery and pain

When animals come out only at night

By the fear of getting scorched by the hot summer

When trees let go of their faithful leaves

And the river lacks its shimmering water

All creatures know the drought is here

Walking through its twisted paths

One would see spikes of trees

that rose from the shadows

And a dried lake with struggling fish

One would see skeletons and bones

Of animals who are dead from

Hunger and thirst

A kind heart would surely burst

How, the once knitted by leaves

Have now become nothing but

a place for terror to rule

How pitiless

Mother Nature has become

To the poor animals who’ve

done nothing wrong

And trees which only gave benefit

How, they have paid for human crimes
