Sri Lanka Railway will operate a number of special trains in view of the Kandy Esala Festival from August 26 to 30. Accordingly, a special train will leave from Colombo Fort railway station to Kandy at 9.30 a.m on August 26 to 30.The same train will leave for Colombo Fort from Kandy railway station at 12 midnight .
A luxury train will also leave for Kandy from Colombo Fort on August 26, 27, and 30 at 6.30 am. Special trains will be in operation between Kandy and Matale from August 26 to August 30 . A train leaves for Matale from Kandy at 1.20 p.m. and the same train will leave for Kandy at 3.3.0 p.m. It will again leave for Matale from Kandy at 11.30 p.m.
Railways Department says that special trains will also ply between Kandy and Nawalapitiya from August 26 to August 30 in view of the kandy Esala Festival. Accordingly Special trains will operate to Nawalapitiya from Kandy at 11.40 p.m.
Railways Deputy General Manager N.J.Indipolage said that these special trains will be deployed in addition to routine trains in view of the Kandy Esala Festival on the directive of Transport, Highways and Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.
