Sri Lanka women came up with a superlative performance to beat the West Indies women by six wickets with 95 balls remaining in their first ODI played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota yesterday.
Sent in to bat first the West Indies women could score only 195 in 47.1 overs.
Hayley Matthews top scored with 38 runs inclusive of six boundaries while Stafanie Taylor also batted well to score 33 runs with three fours as Sugandika Kumari and Kavisha Dilhari claimed three wickets each.
Sri Lanka women started well with openers Vishmi Gunaratne and Chamari Atapattu putting on 88 runs for the first wicket. Gunaratne was the first to go and after the next pair saw the total reach 100 for one wicket Atapattu was dismissed for 38 with six fours.
Then Harshitha Samarawickrema was joined by Hasini Perera and the pair batted confidently to put on 73 runs for the fourth wicket.
