Defending Champions St. Peter’s College produced an exhibition of try-scoring in a one-sided inter school League rugby match for the Dialog trophy as they crushed a promoted Thurstan College by 112 points to 0 at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The Peterites crossed the line for tries as many as 18 times after taking a 55-0 lead at half time.

The home team ran the ball in all directions of the field, many times from their own half out-pacing the Thurstan College players who were never in the game from the start and breathed a sigh of relief when referee Gehan Yatawara blew his final whistle.

Scoring 112 points in 70 minutes of rugby was not what even the Peterite supporters would have expected as winger Vishenka Silva opened the floodgates by scoring five of the tries unchallenged in the first half.

He was too cheeky and too much for the Thurstan team to stop on the field that his coach Sanath Martis had to hold him back in the second half opting for a replacement for much needed exposure in a new season that is expected to snowball as the weeks roll by with 16 teams battling for honours.

At one stage there was speculation whether the Peterites will hit a century that became a reality when a smart Senuth Dinsara chipped the ball over the Thurstan line then charged through picked up and raced 60 metres to score under the post for Rahul Peter to convert making the scores 100-0.

If that was not enough Dinsara in the next minute raced down the line to score again and the Peterites ended the havoc on Thurstan by converting 11 of the tries.
