Tourism booming in Sri Lanka – President

President Ranil Wickremesinghe said tourism is booming in Sri Lanka and they are on the way to attract five million tourists by 2030.

The President was speaking at the opening of the iconic ITC Ratnadipa Hotel at Galle Face.

He said that to accommodate these increased numbers of tourists more space has to be allocated and the government is in the process relocating the President’s House to the Madiwela area within the next decade. He also emphasised the potential for transforming sites such as Republic Square, Navy Headquarters, Old Jetty, Customs House and the General Post Office into key components of the burgeoning Colombo

He said the forthcoming Cinnamon Life project behind the hotel which would all add more rooms to the city of Colombo. Chairman and Managing Director of ITC Ltd Sanjiv Puri said that ITC is one of India’s foremost multi-business conglomerates with businesses in Consumer Goods, Hotels, Paperboards and Packaging, Agri Business and Information Technology and they will try to bring some of them to Sri Lanka as well.

“The Company has over the years, built iconic properties across India and these world-class hotels offer globally renowned signature cuisine, best-in-class services and have pioneered an ethos of Responsible Luxury.” The two towers residential and hotel have been linked by a sky bridge which also houses a swimming pool and it’s the only one in South Asia.
