10 May, 2021

The Olympic Games are a multi-sport competition held every four years. They started in Greece in 776 BC and were held in Athens. In the ancient Olympic Games there were only a few events and only men could take part in them.

The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896. There are many events in the modern Olympic Games and both men and women can take part in them.

In the ancient Olympic Games, the winners were given wreaths of wild olive leaves. In the Olympic Games of today, winners receive medals. The winner gets a gold medal and the second and third winners get silver and bronze medals. In the 2,000 Olympic Games held in Sydney, Australia Sri Lanka’s Susanthika won the bronze medal in the women’s 200 metres.
