Ceylon Theatres is partnering with the British Council to bring the UK’s National Theatre Live (NT Live) to Sri Lankan audiences.
The British Council is pleased to support the NT Live screenings, in 2023/24, as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of UK-Sri Lanka diplomatic ties. This will allow a wider audience to enjoy and experience world class UK Arts. This cinematic experience is not only of interest to theatre enthusiasts but will also appeal to students who enjoy literature and have a passion for arts and culture.
National Theatre Live is an initiative operated by the Royal National Theatre in London. It broadcasts live, by satellite, performances of their productions to cinemas and arts centres around the world. Ceylon Theatres operates the Regal cinemas and the Majestic cinema in Sri Lanka, which collectively has 18 screens across the country in seven locations.
Ceylon Theatres have made arrangements to screen two iconic productions for a limited time period – Yann Martel’s “Life of Pi” and William Shakespeare’s “Othello”. The screenings are due to take place at the Majestic Cinema Colombo and Regal Cinema Jaffna. “Life of Pi” will be screened on 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th September at the Majestic Cinema, and on 9th September at the Regal Cinema Jaffna. Shakespeare’s “Othello” will be screened on 23rd, 24th, 30th September 23, 24, 30 and October 1 at the Majestic Cinema, and October 7at the Regal Cinema Jaffna.
