Education Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday (19) told Parliament that the Examinations Commissioner General has been authorised to take a decision on whether to hold the Advanced Level Examination to be held on November 27 on the same day or to postpone it.

The Minister said this while replying to the proposal presented by

SJB Matale District MP Rohini Wijeratne. Claiming to update the examination schedule, it is unfair to take away the rights of children and that some schools in the remote provinces including the North East have not completed the syllabus, she suggested that the third term of school be eight weeks from October 30 to December 22 this year and January 1, 2024.

It should be implemented from Grade 1 to Grade 12 in three weeks from January 1 to 19.

She said that if the Advanced Level examination starts on January 22, it will be fair to the children by holding it on February 17 and if this is done, the examination schedule can be updated from 2025.

The Minister stated that he will pay attention to the proposal of MP Wijeratne and the Examinations Commissioner General has already paid attention to this.

The Minister said that the Examinations Commissioner General will have the full power to take decisions regarding the examinations and he will take a decision that will not be unfair to the children.
