Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that a large number of children preparing for the Advanced Level Examination and their parents have requested the Education Ministry and the Examination Department through calls and WhatsApp messages not to postpone the examination any longer.

Due to the irregularity of the school examination timetables, the school timetable may also be delayed and the planning of the education process itself may be irregular.

With the postponing of Advanced Level examination, it also delays the work of enrolling children to the Grade One of schools. Also, university admissions are also delayed due to delays in the release of Advanced Level examination results. It also causes students to lose their chances of admission to foreign universities and also lose the scholarships received by foreign universities.

Many corporate sector exams have already been scheduled to be held, will also have to be delayed. Although the children should appear for the Advanced Level examination at around 18 years, due to the postponement of the examinations, children will be over 18 when they sit for the examination, the Minister said.

“However, considering the delay in the release of the results and the increase in the number of candidates who applied after the release of the results (18,473 applications) compared to previous years, taking into consideration the injustice that may be caused by the insufficient preparation time for the examination, the dates of the proposed Advanced Level 2023 examination are to be revised and the Examinations Department will consider the postponement of the exam,”the Minister said. Examinations Commissioner General will announce the specific dates in the coming week.
