Vidyartha and Pushpadana win C rugby

Kandy’s Vidyartha College and Pushpadana Girls College combined team beat home town rivals Kingswood College and Girls High School in the Cup final in the C rugby 2023 championship at Longdon Place last week.
In the Plate final Dharmaraja College and Mahamaya Girls College went down to the combined Wesley College and Methodist College team.
The event was organized for the seventh time by AGOAL International, headed by former Isipathana College, CR and FC and Sri Lanka rugby player and renowned rugby referee Dilroy Fernando.

Old Trinitians Scrummage AGM

The Old Trinitians Rugby Scrummage Annual General Meeting is set for September 27 at the CR & FC club house. NLK Ratnayake the present president is certain to continue for another term.
Rugby Scrummage is the brainchild of Kenneth Boteju who played for Trinity in the late 1940s as a wing three quarter. Boteju started it around 1992 together with his friend Rajah ‘Dabar’ Adihetty.

Old Sylvestrains Sevens cricket

SSCK Hunters became the champions and the runners-up were Asgiriya Vesters at the Old Sylvestrians SC 7-a-side cricket tournament played for the President’s trophy at the Police ground in Kandy.
In this tournament only the old boys of St. Sylvester’s were allowed to take part.
The best batsman’s award went to Ranjan Prabath of Asgiriya Vesters, the best bowler’s award to R.M. Hamsun of SSCK Hunters. The best fielder was AWM Riyas of SSCK Hunters and the man of the tournament award was won by LPS Arosha of Ranil Asgiriya Vesters.

Trinity champions

Trinity College weightlifters led by Abidh Jameel presented a magnificent performance to emerge overall weightlifting champions at the All-Island Schools’ Games 2023 held at Royal College, Polonnaruwa.
They were able to win the Under-17 title with 13 points where Yasan Kavsidu was number one.
Sadil Angammana and Ravishka Dissanayake took the first and second places in the 102kg class.
