To play golf for charity is a nobel deed and this is what exactly the golfers will be doing to collect funds for charity and help poor kids.
To make this a reality the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan will conduct a par 3 golf tournament for the seventh time at the RCGC golf course on October 14. This tournament is hosted by the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) that promises intense golfing competition scheduled to begin at 7 am and finish by late in the evening.
This tournament is to collect funds and serve the community and help children who need heart surgery and give them other medical needs to keep them healthy.
“About 50 underprivileged children who need heart surgery will be taken care of. We will also provide medical supplies to hospitals as well.
“We will undertake to have the children involved in vocational training that will help them in the future. Children of caddies will also be provided with books and shoes that will help them in their studies without any hindrance,” said Kishani Gunasekera the president of the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Colombo.
The tournament will be played on a par 3 course and the 18 holes will be completed in 54 shots. There will be prizes for the golfer who gets a hole-in-one also according to the organizers.
Rohitha Silva the Captain of RCGC said that without charity no one can take care of good health.
“Some people in the vicinity eat only once a day. We want to give them books, bags and shoes,” added Silva.
There will be about 180 golfers who will turn up for the tournament and they will be divided into two groups. One group will tee off at 7 am and the other at 11.30 am.
“We have Dialog who are the backbone for our tournament. RCGC are the partners and the course will be much shorter,” said Kumar Mirchandani the match director.
