Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says that there is no threat to Sri Lanka from the Nipah virus so far, but the measures are followed regularly  with the World Health Organization to control it.

In addition to this, the Health Ministry Secretary, the Director General and Virology experts are discussing the measures to be taken to prevent the Nipah virus from entering the country. The necessary measures will be followed if, for any reason, cases of the virus are reported from the country, he said.

Rambukwella said this while addressing the media yesterday (24) in Kandy. The Minister also said that there is a risk of people infected with the virus entering the country by air, so special attention has been paid to it.

In addition to this, he emphasized that the measures to be taken to prevent the disease from entering the country via people returning from abroad after pilgrimage have also been discussed.
