Girls from St. Bridget’s Convent took pride of place at the inaugural Gym for Life Challenge gymnastics championship organized by the National Gymnastic Association of Sri Lanka that according to organizers turned out into a captivating display of athleticism and artistry at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The Bridgetines as they are called showcased the talents and skills among over 2500 young gymnasts from all across the country.

Followers of the sport said the girls truly put their school on top despite having just a year to discover their prowess that gave them the runners-up title in the two-day contest as they displayed a very promising show of skills, talents and artistry that made them one of the best teams in the arena.
Gymnastic disciplines like aerobic, acrobatic, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics under three main categories featured in the championship that had events for men, women and mixed displays.
The women’s category had 28 teams competing for the trophy and the Bridgetines grabbed a place among the top four in the preliminary round allowing them to secure a place at the finals where their eye-catching performance brought them the second runner-up trophy.
According to the school, with less than a year of collegiate gymnastics behind them, the achievement of the young Bridgetines was highly commendable.
A spokesperson for the school said the achievement in the sport of gymnastics was “a testament to the hard work, determination, effort and commitment that has been poured into the sport by head coach Indika Thushara, Collegiate team coach Sachin Sulakshana, the Collegiate School Principal Rev. Sr Sujani Fernando and the teacher in charge Hemanthi de Zilwa” not forgetting the girls who made it all happen.
