Unsung, unassuming and unwanted Sri Lanka cricketer Dinesh Chandimal will have his name etched in letters of gold when he declares open an indoor practice facility at Dharmasoka College in Ambalagoda this morning

Dinesh Chandimal
Having being at the receiving end of many a raw deal in his desire to sport the Sri Lanka colours, Chandimal will be the undisputed toast at his old school where he learnt and nurtured his cricket and went to the extent of spending from his own pocket Rs. 20 million to construct the practice facility.
No stranger to reaching out to the under privileged, Chandimal with the blessings of the school built the facility in just 35 days with the support of army engineers.
Chandimal played school cricket with much pride for Dharmasoka and crossed over to Ananda College in Colombo where he played for the Under-17 team and graduated to play First Eleven cricket.
He joined Ajith de Silva, who was the first cricketer from Dharmasoka to play for Sri Lanka, Saman Jayantha and Upul Tharanga as four players from the Ambalangoda school to wear the national cap.
But the question still remains unanswered why Chandimal has not being considered for a place in the Sri Lanka ODI team for more than a year since making 33 against Afghanistan in a match played in November last year.
