Racer Stephan Fernando stepped onto the podium as the overall champion as motor racing returned to the track after a lapse of some years to win the event called Thunder Strike Katukurunda last Sunday.
Organisers said it was a ‘game changing’ event for motor racing in Sri Lanka that heralded the impact the newly elected president of the Federation of Motor Cycles Sri Lanka (FMSSL), Shane Gunawardena that had remained dormant for 30 years.
An official of the FMSSL said racing fans can now look forward to for what he said was the dawn of an exhilarating new era of motorcycle racing in Sri Lanka.
“This transformation serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, not only for motorcycle enthusiasts but also for all sports organizations seeking renewal and revitalization,” he said.
Over 140 riders took part in 14 events at Thunder Strike Katukurunda.
