More than 5,000 people have been affected in three districts in the country due to the extreme weather conditions.

The Disaster Management Center stated that 5,051 persons belonging to 1,275 families are affected.

The Ratnapura, Matara and Kalutara districts have been affected due to the bad weather conditions.

According to the Irrigation Department, the water level of the Kalu, Gin and Nilwala rivers has risen due to the rainy weather, and floods have also occurred in some areas. The water level in Maussakelle Reservoir has risen rapidly due to the continuous rain falling on the western slopes of the central hills for nearly a month.

The engineers in charge of the reservoir said that as of yesterday morning, there was about 10 more feet to reach the overflow level of the reservoir.
