Celebrations were held on Saturday, September 30 to mark the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) at Masjid Al Jannah, Slough, UK.
The Masjid (Mosque) founded and managed by the Sri Lanka Muslim Association UK (Slough), has been serving local Muslims, since its inception in 2011 with the aim of ‘providing facilities to meet socio, cultural and religious requirement of the local Muslim community’.
Saturday’s event was organised by some founder members of the mosque and congregation, and was funded by well-wishers. The event was attended by pillars of the Sri Lankan Muslim expat community in the UK, such as former Mayor of Harrow, Nizam Isamil and former DGM Bank of Ceylon, M S M Liyawdeen. The 300-strong guest list also included attendees from as far as Birmingham and Cardiff.
The event was opened by Nashen Awuf and young Refai Siddique who welcomed guests and recited verses from the Holy Quran.
Later the gests then participated in the recitation of the Mowlood, a compilation of praise of the Holy Prophet. An explanation of some of the verses of the Mowlood was given by Dr Muhammad, while the sermon was delivered by Liyawdeen. Prayers and supplications were recited by Ali Abrar and Ali Arbab. Final closing remarks were made by Nuskey Nasrudeen.
