The Government has affirmed its unwavering support for the new administration in the Maldives, said Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Maldives Adam Maznavee Jaufer Sadiq.

He was speaking during a meeting with Maldives President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The Vice-President-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef was also present. The Sri Lankan envoy was one of the first foreign dignitaries to meet the incoming Maldivian President whose term begins next month.

Dr. Muizzu expressed optimism about the prospect of enhancing and elevating the bilateral relations with Sri Lanka during his term. He conveyed his desire for the relations to grow and strengthen in the coming years.

The Ambassador reassured both parties of Sri Lanka’s complete support and collaboration across various sectors for the development of the Maldives, one of Sri Lanka’s closest neighbours in physical, cultural and linguistic terms. Earlier, President Ranil Wickremesinghe was among the first world leaders to congratulate the new Maldivian President-elect.
