Ven. Shik Wuyang, the Chief Prelate of the Baolin Temple, Danyang Town, Lianjiang Country, Fujian Province in China will be conferred an Honorary Title by the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya today in recognition of his services to propagate the Buddha Sasana in China and in other countries and promoting the Sino-Lanka relationship.
Ven. Wuyang will be conferred the Honorary Title Lokatthacari Sasanasobhana Lankabhimitra Dhammaghosa by the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya Visesadhikari Mandalaya, headed by Most Ven. Makulewe Wimala Mahanayaka Maha Thera at the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya Headquarters in Colombo 5. The Ven. Wuyang will be accompanied by a 130-strong Chinese delegation.
The Title Citation will be offered by the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. A number of guests including Minister of Buddha Sasana, Vidura Wickramanayake will attend this function.
Ven. Shik Wuyang obtained his B.A. Degree in philosophy from Beijing University and holds a Postgraduate degree in comparative religions from the same University. He acts as Abbot of Lianjiang Baolin Zen temple in Fujian Province in China, which has been recognized as a cultural heritage site in China and which is considered to have been constructed around the year 1100 A.D. Due to this being a significant cultural heritage site, it is safeguarded currently under the protection of the Provincial Heritage Centre of the Fujian Province.
He has promoted traditional Buddhist cultures both in China and countries like Cambodia, Korea and Germany. Additionally, he has traveled to countries such as Japan, France, Hungary, Austria and Dubai with the aim of spreading the word of the Buddha. He also uses ancient Chinese music to promote Buddhist art forms And the Buddha’s sublime message.
In 2010, he led a program with four disciples of Baolin Zen Temple to host a Buddhist concert in Fujian Grand Theatre, being the first Buddhist concert in Fujian Province. In 2011, Venerable Shik Wuyan was invited to host a Buddhist concert at a theater in Dusseldorf in Germany. The same year, he was invited to South Korea for the recording of the Korean Buddhist World Sound Program which was livestreamed around the world. He was the first Chinese monk to be invited to attend such a function in Korea.
Ven. Shik Wuyang has been helping to develop the Sri Bodhiraja Temple and the affiliated Dhamma School in Vithanage Mawatha in Colombo 2, Sri Lanka since 2003.
