Following the abolition of former Minister Naseer Ahamed’s Parliamentary seat, the Constitutional responsibility for filling this position is with President Ranil Wickremesinghe. As per the provisions of the Constitution, the President holds the authority to appoint the Environment Minister, a decision that he will consider on his return from an official visit to China this weekend. The Supreme Court ruling nullified former Minister Ahmed’s Parliamentary seat, leaving the portfolio unoccupied. The President is now overseeing the Ministry as per Constitutional provisions.
