16 teams contest maiden women’s futsal championship

Sixteen teams will participate in the first ever Premier Women’s Futsal Cup tournament to be held at the Colombo Football Club courts at Galle Road, Dehiwela opposite St. Mary’s Church today (15).

The tournament is organized by the Colombo Football Club and sponsored by Expo Lanka and scheduled to begin at 8 am to finish at 8 pm.

The sixteen teams are divided into four groups and play on a league basis.

The winners and runners-up of each group will qualify to the quarter-finals. The winners of each quarter-final will play in the semi-finals and the losers of each semi-final will qualify for the third place play-off.

Matches in the group stage will be played to a 6-1-6 minutes time limit. The semi-finals will be played to a 8-2-8 minutes time limit while the final will be played to 10-2-10 minutes time limit.

Each team should consist of only eight players.

Draw:

Group A: Colombo Football Club ‘B’, Colombo International School ‘C’, Air Force ‘A’ and Colombo International School ‘A’

Group B: Colombo Football Club ‘A’, Renown Blue, Veheradeniyanz and Renown White
Group C: Colombo International School ‘B’, Midtown Bisons, Maharagama FC and Elizabeth Moir

Group D: Army SC, Offside SC, Navy SC and Air Force ‘B’.
