KMC football champions

Kandy Municipal Council emerged champions in the 9-a-side football tournament played at the Dangolla Municipal playground.

The tournament was played for the Chamindranee Kiriella Trophy and organized by Hy-line Sports Club Dangolla. Twenty three teams participated and Hyline SC finished third.

The champions were entitled to a cash award of Rs 100,000, the runners-up Rs 75,000 and third place Rs. 50,000.

Kandy cricketers in U-19 squad

Some of the top cricketers from schools in Kandy are in the Sri Lanka Under-19 squad to tour Pakistan.

On this tour they will play a five-match ODI series and a one-off four-day youth Test. All the matches are scheduled to be played in Karachi.

The Kandy schoolboys in the squad are Pulindu Perera (Dharmaraja College), Kaveesha Piyumal (St. Anthony’s College) and Manula Kularatne (Trinity College). The stand-by players from Kandy are Supun Waduge and Dinuka Tennakoon (Trinity College).

Junior rugby in Kandy

The third leg of the Ritzbury Super 16 Junior Rugby Carnival will be held at the Bogambara Stadium on October 21.

This is the 14th consecutive year that the Super 16 Junior Rugby Carnival is set to be held.

Trinity OBA rugby

Twelve Trinity College OBA teams are set to play in the Ready Set Lions Rugby Sevens Class of 99 that is expected to be played on November 11 at the Bogambara Stadium.

Organisers say the event will feature leading players.
